Butcher, died suddenly yesterday afternoon between 3 and 4 o'clock at his home on East Sixth street from acute dilatation of the heart. Mr. Butcher, who was employed at the Skelley Oil Station at the corner of Main and 6th, had the day off yesterday but relieved Edward O'Herron at the dinner hour. In the afternoon he went into the basement to oil the washing machine preparatory to Monday washing and on returning complained of a pain in the chest. A doctor was called and he was put to bed but the pain was intense and he attempted to walk from bed into another room when he dropped dead. He had been dead all last week. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in the city cemetery. William Jennings Bryan Butcher was born at Logan April 8, 1896, when 3 years old moved to Missouri Valley with his parents, Mr and Mrs George Butcher. His father, who was marshal of that place, was killed about 22 years ago attempting to take in charge some desperadoes. He attended school and grew up at Missouri Valley and then came to Carroll in 1914 when he had the position of signal man for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad company. He was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Ambs of Carroll in Denison Dec 15, 1917 and to this union 3 children were born: Josephine 13, Kenneth 9, and Billy 2. Other survivors are his mother, Mrs George Butcher of Missouri Valley; and the following brothers and sisters: George Butchers, Jr. of Grand Island, NE; Mrs C.H. Sloan of Sioux City; Mrs. C.C. Smith, Miss Ruth Butcher, and Ralph Butcher of Council Bluffs. After leaving the signal service Mr Butcher was distributor for the Register and Tribune for a time and then was employed by the Skelley Oil Company, which position he held at the time of his death. He was an ex-service man having served as an electrician and then as a third class fireman in the US Navy from which he was honorably discharged at Newport, RI.
