Helen and William both graduated from high school, as had William's younger brother, Raymond. The 1940 US Census shows the Buchta's living in Nebraska, the state where they all had been born. That year they lived in rural Omaha, near Pacific and 30th Ave., on Poppleton. Today that area is part of Omaha, Nebraska. William Buchta, Sr, 59, was the head of house. Although he had not worked for the past year, he described himself as a butcher, in private work. William had an 8th grade education. Margaret Buchta, 53, was Wm Sr's wife. She had a 7th grade education, but both she and her husband encouraged the children to not only go to school, saw them graduate from high school. Raymond Buchta, 25, son, was still single at Census time, 1940. Later that fall, in Sept., 1940, Raymond married Agnes Frances Dworak. Raymond was a butcher for a retail meat and grocery store. Helen and William Jr, with their 4 year old son, Robert, lived in the same household. William Jr. was an accountant at the W.P.A. office (the Works Project Administration was a government project that hired people to plant trees, build concrete buildings on farms, work on roads--a way to help people during the Great Depression). Both Helen and William Jr. had graduated from high school. The 1940 US Census listed them as William Buchta, 25, son Helen Buchta, 26, daughter-in-law Robert Buchta, 4, grandson Agnes and Raymond are buried in Station 3, in Calvary Cemetery.
