William Boness, the well known mountaineer, who has for many years lived in the canyon of Little Chico creek, is a very sick man at his home, with the probability that the end is near. Mr. Boness has been failing for several months and in order that he might have medical attention, a residence was insured in the easterly portion of town, where his children have gathered to await what is feared will be the final summons. ~~~ California, U.S., Death and Burial Records from Select Counties, 1873-1987 lists death for William Boness as 3 March 1905, instead of 4 March 1905. The burial permit is dated 4 March 1905, but gives DOD as 3 March 1905 ... The marker lists 4 March 1905 as DOD, (but markers can be wrong), - hypothesis information provided by by Sandy Morrey, Dec 12, 2020 and interment, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, of 77-year-old William Boness, took place on March 6, 1905, at the location shown in this memorial.
