Johnston died at his residence, Beamsville, on Friday last at the age of 75 years. He enjoyed fairly good health until he took ill in May and rapidly got worse until the end came. The late Wm. He enjoyed fairly good health until he took ill in May and rapidly got worse until the end came. The late Wm. Johnston was one of the pioneers of Amaranth township, having settled on the east half of lot 28, con. 1, forty-seven years ago. The farm is now owned by the Small Bros. Mrs. Johnston died eleven years ago. A few years ago the family moved to Shelburne after selling the farm and resided on Andrew street and remained there until they moved to Beamsville. The deceased during his long residence in Amaranth enjoyed the respect and esteem of his neighbors and was well liked by everybody. In politics he was a Conservative and a member of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by one son and one daughter, Harry Johnston and Mrs. Samuel Shields of Beamsville. Samuel Johnston of St. Catharines and Joseph Johnston of San Francisco are brothers and Mrs. S. Phoenix and Miss Johnston of Shelburne are sisters of deceased. His remains were brought to Shelburne on Saturday evening and taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Phoenix, from which place the funeral was held on Sunday afternoon to Shelburne cemetery. The services at the house and grave were conducted by the Rev. J. A. McKenzie of Knox church. The funeral was largely attended by old friends and neighbors of the deceased.
