BENNETT ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS JUNE 16 Was Resident Here Fifty Years—Funeral Services Held Friday Afternoon William J. Bennett passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 16, 1943 at 2:00 a. m., at the age of 83 years and 12 days, after a residence of fifty years in the Akron community. He had attended to his usual duties and had been down town the day before his death. William Joseph Bennett was born in Ontario, Canada, June 4, 1860, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bennett. When he was four, the family came to the United States and settled at Prescott, Wisconsin. This remained the family home until he attained the age of twenty-one, at which time they moved to Sioux City, Iowa. He was married to Rose M. Knapp, May 12, 1891, and they began their married life on a farm in the Broken Kettle vicinity in southwest Plymouth County, later moving to the Akron community. This, has remained their home since. On May 12, 1941, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here. There were three children born to them all of whom, besides, his widow, survive namely: Mrs. Lyle F. Strong, of Sioux City, Iowa; Miss Murel Bennett, at home, and Mrs. Curtis L. Lewison of Akron. There also survive him eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well, as four sisters and four brothers: James, Gilbert and Albert, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Walter, of Richland, S.D.; Mrs. Adelaide Faulkner and Mrs. Clara Lyons, of Los Angeles; Mrs. R.B. Nesbit, of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. Wm. H. Morse, of Akron. Mr. Bennett farmed north of Akron on the Dakota side, for a number of years, and later moved to Akron and engaged in the automobile business. He retired from active business and companionable ways, he will be greatly missed by his family as well as his many old-time friends in the community. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Akron Methodist church, conducted by Rev. A.A. Howe, the pastor. Mrs. Hugh Chamberlain sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me." Acting as pallbearers were Harry Nelson, Abe Miller, Max Pollock, L.D.,Ross, Walter Mellen and Hobart Ross. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. Relatives present from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Strong and Shirley, Mrs. Minnie Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nesbit, Mrs. Walter Bogenrief, Mrs. Ben Snave, all of Sioux City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Bennett, Mrs. Maurice Erickson and Willis Morse, all of Richland, S.D.
