Read More	"ACCIDENTALY KILLED WHILE GOING TO WORK - Wm Bettinger, Former Lindsay Resident, Dies in Hospital Following Accident - Lambert Stoffel of Denver Gives Account of Accident Which Occurred June 26th - We are indebted to Lambert Stoffel, of Denver, former Humphrey boy and employee of this paper for an account of the accident that resulted fatally to Wm. Bettinger, a former resident of the Lindsay neighborhood. "On last Wednesday evening the sad news came to the parents, relatives and friends of William J. Bettinger that he had been seriously injured on Tuesday morning, June 26, and as a result died the following evening in a hospital at Ogden, Utah. Bill, as he was known to all, left Denver about four weeks ago, accompanied by his brother, George, and another Stratton boy, Fred Harvey, to work on a new line for the Western Union Telegraph Company near Evanston, Wyoming. Some of the men were riding on a section flat car pushed by a small motor to get to a siding to let a train pass. The flat cars were loaded with cross arms such as are used on the telegraph poles and in some manner one of these fell, one end striking between the ties the other hitting Bill in the pit of the stomach raising him from the flat car and throwing him so the motor car passed beneath him while he was in the air. He regained consciousness and was placed aboard the train and rushed to Dee Hospital at Ogden, Utah, where he underwent an operation but his chances for recovery were doubtful as the tissues, muscles and small intestines were torn and bruised by the impact of the blow. His brother, George, was called from the camp but arrived too late as Bill passed away at five o'clock Wednesday evening after suffering terribly for about thirty hours. He was laid to rest at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Denver Saturday morning, June 30. William J. Bettinger was born at St. Bernard, Nebraska, on February 20, 1901. He was baptized, received his first Holy Communion and laid to rest under the auspices of the St. Franciscan Fathers. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bettinger, of Stratton, Colorado, he leaves ten brothers and two sisters, and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. To know him was to call him your friend for he was of such a happy generous disposition and his good nature was ever uppermost.
