Sept 8, 1966 - Carroll Daily Times - William J. Leuer, 72, of Carroll, a retired Lidderdale businessman, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the Veterans Hospital at Knoxville, where he had been a patient for two months. He was a former mayor of Lidderdale. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Lawrence Church by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. Karhoff. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Sharp Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. The Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus, will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday there will be a Legion of Mary rosary at 3 p.m.; an Elks memorial service at 7:30, and a St. Lawrence parish rosary at 8. Mr. Leuer is survived by his wife, Christine; and one sister, Wanda Leuer of Glidden. He was born at Mallard Oct. 25, 1893, a son of John and Agnes Leuer. In 1909 he moved with his parents to Glidden, where his father opened a hardware business. He was associated with his father there until 1931, when he purchased the Lidderdale Hardware which he owned and operated until retiring and moving to the present Leuer home at 421 West 18th Street, Carroll, in November, 1956. During World War I, Mr. Leuer served overseas with the 109th Engineers. His marriage to Christine Grobmeier took place at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll Oct. 16, 1944, with the late Rev. Arthur Poeckes officiating. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks, and the Carroll Country Club. His father died in 1934; his mother, in 1936.
