K. Lortz, life-long resident of this community passed away Dec. 11,1950 at the age of 93 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 13, at St. Paul's Methodist church with Dr. John Nye in charge, assisted by Rev. Richard Canfield of Aurora, Ill. Rev. R. H. Kettell gave the sermon. Mrs. Dorcas Furman and Mr. Merwyn Jones sang, "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me", and "Saved by Grace", accompanied by Miss Viola Dubishar. Burial was in Pilot Grove cemetery. The pallbearers were Ralph Lortz, Sr., Ralph Lortz, Jr., Merlin Stahl, Orville Goodman, Clarence Lortz, and Alfred Lortz, all cousins and nephews of the deceased. William K. Lortz was born on the original Lortz homestead in Pilot township July 25, 1857, the second son of three born to William and Elizabeth Baltz Lortz. His two brothers, George and Charles are now deceased. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Goodman and for three years the couple lived with the Lortz family, before moving to the farm west of Williamsburg which remained their home until moving to town in 1916. Mrs. Lortz died May 11, 1944, Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lortz, Laura, Ivor, Altha and Truman. Laura died as a child and Altha, Mrs. Roy Ablard passed away in 1917. The two sons still reside on farms in Pilot township. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Glenn Ablard, Clinton __, Lesta Lortz, Williamsburg, Harlan Lortz, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Richard Canfield, Aurora, Ill., and Mrs. Charles Austin, Taylorville, __. In addition he leaves ten Great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Glenn Ablard, and Mrs. Charles Austin, formerly Mary Ablard, were reared by Mr. and Mrs. Lortz after the deaths of their mother. Mr. Lortz was a faithful and devoted member of the Methodist church, first, at Pilot Grove, later transferring his membership to the church in Williamsburg. His home was founded on Christian principles and he faithfully endeavored to follow these principles in his daily life."
