The church was packed to hear the pastor, Rev. W. P. Clayburg, speak highly of a departed business man whose sudden and untimely passing after a ten days illness shocked and saddened the whole community. Burial was in the local cemetery, Charity Lodge No. 197 A. P. & A. M., of which Karl was a member, having charge of the service at the grave and members of the local American Legion post, of which Karl was vice-commander, fired the final salute and sounded taps. The obituary follows: William Karl Keister was born at Bellevue, Iowa, July 18, 1895. When but a child his parents moved to Coon Rapids, where he grew to manhood and has since made is home. He passed away at his home May 7, 1933, at the age of 37 years, 9 months and 19 days. He was a graduate of the Coon Rapids Public Schools and of Iowa State University. While attending the University he enlisted as a Gunner in the Air Service, but was later transferred to the Officer's Training Camp, from which he was honorably discharged after the close of the war. He was a charter member of the local American Legion Post, holding the office of Vice-Commander and Chairman of the Boy Scout Committee, at the time of his death. He was interested and active in all civic affairs. He has held the office of City Clerk for several years and has completed a term of service in volunteer Fire Department of the town. In his business life Karl has made an indelible impression upon the community. Honesty, justice, fairness, these all men knew were the foundations of his business life. He dealt justly, and asked justice from everyone. On May 11, 1924, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Yager. Two children have brought joy and happiness into this happy home- Lois Marie, and William Karl, Jr . His family and his home were the center of his interests. He spared neither himself nor his efforts in making his home and loved ones comfortable and happy. His first thought was for their welfare. He was a home loving husband and father. As a child he was baptized in the Presbyterian church, and remained in this faith until the end. He was also a member of the Masonic order. Besides his wife and children he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Keister, one sister, Mrs. Carl Iverson of Ames, and one brother, Harold, of Coon Rapids, other relatives and many friends.
