It was the second death from the explosion. Mr. Sanders oldest son. Randall, died Saturday. His other son, Donald, 14, remains in critical condition at the Institute of Surgical Research, the burns unit of Brooke Army Medical center, San Antonio, where all 3 victims were taken March 5. Mr. Sanders died at 2:30 a.m., succumbing to burns which covered 77 1/2 percent of his body. His widow, Mrs. Rita Sanders, is in San Antonio. Mr. Sanders and his sons were caught in a March 2 explosion at a Concordia service station which Mr. Sanders had bought the day before. They were cleaning and painting the new business when the blast occurred. Both Mr. Sanders and Randall were burned over more than 75 percent of their bodies. Donald is burned over 50 percent of his. Survival chances better The medical center, as a matter of policy, makes no estimate of the survival chances of any individual patient, but a spokesman noted that Donald was "in a category" in which current burn therapy had cut the death rate by half. The therapy involves use of an ointment, sulfamylon, developed by the Institute of Surgical Research. A Brooke spokesman said sulfamylon had halved the mortality rate in cases of burns covering up to 6O percent of the body. Mr. Sanders was born March 9, 1933, at Axtell, and had lived in Concordia since 1962. He was a painting and carpentry contractor until buying the service station. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church and the Moose and Elks lodges of Concordia. He was a Korean war veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors, beside the; widow and son, are 2 daughters, Janet and Michelle, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Joe Sanders, Marysville, 3 brothers, Joe, Centralia; Raymond and Leo, both of Seneca, and 4 sisters, Mrs. Lois DePoorlere, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Arcena Wilhelm, Soldier; Mrs. Eileen Henderson, Marysville, and Mrs. Rita Anderson, Wichita. The funeral will be at 9 am Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, the Rev. Loren Worth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Concordia cemetery. The funeral for Randall will held Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Concordia.
