He was born August 13, 1866 on a farm near Liberty, Gage County, NE and departed this life in Blue Springs, NE January 19, 1938, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 6 days. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Liberty and on March 9, 1891 at the age of 24, he was united in marriage with Alma S. Retchless, daughter of William Retchless and Saline Humphrey. He was born August 13, 1866 on a farm near Liberty, Gage County, NE and departed this life in Blue Springs, NE January 19, 1938, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 6 days. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Liberty and on March 9, 1891 at the age of 24, he was united in marriage with Alma S. Retchless, daughter of William Retchless and Saline Humphrey. To this union was born 6 children: Charles of Wynmore, NE Hobart of Omaha, NE George of Ft. Morgan, Colo Mrs. Fannie Butler of Lincoln, NE Mrs. Nellie Alma Rhoten of Blue Springs, NE Hattie Belle who passed away July 21, 1937. His wife Alama preceded him in death August 20, 1908. Besides his children, he leaves one brother and three sisters; Charles Edwin Dewey of Garber, Okla, Mrs. Minnie Titus of Lake City, Iowa, Mrs. Daisy Powell of Beatrice, NE and Miss Belle Dewey of Liberty, NE. He leaves 14 grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends. In his youth he was united with the Church of Christ. He was a faithful and devoted reader of the Holy Bible. He shall long be remembered for his knowledge of the scriptures. He lived all his life in the vicinity of Liberty until two years ago when he retired from the farm and moved to Blue Springs where he remained in ill health until his passing. 259
