Read More	The funeral of William L. Tubbs who died at Santa Ana, California Tuesday morning of last week, was held here Tuesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Walter A. Morgan of the M. E. Church. Mr. Tubbs grew to manhood in this vicinity and was known all over southwest Iowa. A large number of reins from all over the state were present at the funeral. The local Masonic lodge of which he was a member, had charge of the services and members of the order from Malvern, Red Oak, Hastings, and Glenwood, who knew and respected the deceased, were in attendance. The casket was open at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 and the remains were viewed by hundreds of sorrowing friends who but three or four weeks ago enjoyed visiting with him while here from his California home. On account of the shock of Mr. Tubbs sudden death and the poor sate of her health, Mrs. Tubbs was unable to make the trip east, and the remains were accompanied by their son, John. Interment was made in the family burial plot in the Emerson Cemetery. William L. Tubbs was born in Flowerfield, Michigan on April 17, 1855 and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Tubbs to Mills County in April 1856. They lived first in Glenwood and later moved to a farm at Malvern. He received all the advantages of the common schools, which were supplemented by a course at Tabor College. For two years he was employed in the mercantile establishment of J. D. Paddock & Co. and later came to Emerson where he engaged with his father in the farming and stock raising business. On the 20th of September 1876, he was united in marriage to Alice N. Tomblin of Plano, Illinois. To them were born four children, Mabel who died in infancy, Harry S., John W., and Will Lester. The widow and the three sons survive him. Mr. Tubbs also leaves to mourn him, his mother, Mrs. Siby Tubbs, his brother, V. V. Tubbs, and Dr. R. B. Birdsall, Mrs. M. L. Evans, and Mrs. Wm. G. Alexander. Mr. Tubbs was sheriff of Mills County from 1896 to 1900 and soon after that removed with his family to Santa Ana, California, where he had lived for the past ten years. Mr. Tubbs was interested in many business enterprises in Santa Anna; was a member of the Masonic Order; of the Elks, and of the Santa Ana Presbyterian Church. There in that beautiful land of sunshine and flowers he lived and from that land he left us on July 11, 1911, at the age of 56 years. Malvern Leader, July 26, 1911, page 6
