OBITUARY THE ADAMS COUNTY FREE PRESS Corning, Iowa Thursday, May 20, 1948 WILLIAM PEPPER Friends and relatives were grieved to learn of the sudden death of Wm. Pepper which occured at 8:25 Saturday morning, May 15 1948, at his home northwest of Corning. He was the fourth child of Charles and Mary Pepper, born on August 19, 1874, near Grand Junction, Green County, Iowa. When a small child the family moved to Nance County, Nebraska settling near Belgrade, sharing the hardships and privations of the pioneer life. The father's death at the age of 40 left him and his brothers the responsibilities of the farm until establishing their own homes. He was educated in Nance County country schools and attended business college but chose farming as his profession. In the fall of 1901 he was married to Myrtle Goltry of Russell, Ia. who had been teaching school in the community near his home. In the year 1912, they moved to a farm in Taylor County, Iowa, with their three children. They later moved to Adams County always living close to his children whom he cherished dearly. He is survived by his wife, two children, Phyllis and Howard, and 3 grandchildren, Robert Walter, Cathryn and Jean Pepper, three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Doris and grandson, David Pepper, two brothers and three sisters. He lived an exemplary Christian life trying always to observe the Golden Rule and if hastily in reproof was so ready to forgive. He enjoyed the association of neighbors and friends and his absence will be keenly felt. The funeral services were held at the home, eight and one-half miles northwest of Corning, Ia., May 17, 1948 at 2:00 o'clock. They were conducted by Rev. S.R. Overholser of Earlham, Iowa. The singing was by Alta Conz and interment was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery. The pall bearers were James Hunter, Paul Bauer, George Segriff, Clyde Kempton, Homer O'Connell and James Walter. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. David Gaw, Omaha, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Phil Tanner and son, Fontanelle, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Creger and son, Mrs. Harry Kale and son of Truro, Iowa; and John B. Goltry, Russell, Iowa.
