MANSKE PASSES ON AT HIS HOME SUNDAY EVENING Death claimed another early pioneer of this community Sunday evening at 11:00 o'clock, when Wm. J. Manske answered the final summons at his home in Pierce. Mr. Manske was born at Braunsberg, Ponmmern, Germany, July 3, 1863, and in 1868 when five years of age came to America with his parents, settling in Watertown, Wis. The following year, in 1869, they joined a caravan and came to Nebraska, locating on a homestead northeast of town, where a son, Ernest, now lives and where deceased resided until 12 years ago when he moved to Pierce on account of ill health. He was united in marriage May 1, 1894, to Louise Schmidt at Fremont. Six sons and four daughters were born to this union. Three sons, Geo., Samuel and Lawrence and three daughters, Lydia, Hattie and Ruth preceded their father in death. Three sons, Wm. Jr., Ernest and Raymond and one daughter, Rose of Omaha, together with their mother survive. Also a sister, Mrs. Mary Otto of Hadar, one granddaughter and two grandsons, Lloyd and Eldon. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church at 2 p. m. with Rev. E. T. Antrim in charge. A quartet sang appropriate hymns. Pall bearers were Fred Maas, S. M. Durfee, Jake Horst, Leo Frey, Gus Price and Homer Birch. Burial was in the family lot in Prospect View cemetery.
