Description	:	Born first generation of German/Polish immigrants, John and Agnes Stefanski, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Bill Stevens was third child and second son born into the family. John Stefanski was employed by the railroad and the family moved around Wisconsin due to his work. They did, however, move to Seattle, Washington about 1905. Bill worked in the police department in the Ballard area of what later to be annexed to Seattle. He met and married Elsa Hedwig Heyer in 1911; their daughter, Bernice Fredricka, was born the next year and a son, William M. Jr in 1916. Bill Stevens owned and operated Stevens Fuel Company near what is now University Village in Seattle. He operated that business until about 1940, when he sold the land and moved to South Whidbey Island. Bill and Elsa Stevens lived on Whidbey Island from about the early 1940's. They divorced in 1949 and Bill married Helma Simmons Erickson in 1949. They were together until her death in 1962; he married again in 1963 to Grace Nelson.
