Description	:	William served in the Ohio Infantry Company C Regiment 180 for one year during the Civil War (of Morrow County). His two nephews, Daniel and Samuel, also served in the Civil War. William was enrolled on September 16, 1964 and was discharged on July 12, 1865 at Charlotte, North Carolina. His papers state that he was 35 years of age when discharged and was 5 foot 11 inches tall with dark complexion, grey eyes, and black hair. He was a farmer at the time of enrollment. According to Leatha Martin Morton (great granddaughter), he lived in the following places based on pension declaration papers: Centre County, Pennsylvania born Morrow County, Ohio (Whetotine to 1869, Ceulleton to 1874 - not sure of spellings from Pension Papers) Mango, Indiana 1874-1879 Glasgow, Nebraska 1879-1892 Spencer, Nebraska 1892-1894 (his first wife died here) Turner, Nebraska 1894-1907 (married his second wife here) Smithville, Meade County, South Dakota (where he homesteaded) Bureau of Land Management Patent Records indicate that William Sower purchased and homesteaded the land on September 14, 1908 from the land office in Rapid City, South Dakota. #6129 for NW Section 23 in township 2-N in Range 15-E at the Black Hills, South Dakota in Pennington County. This was for 160 acres. When he died, William was living at the Soldiers and Sailors home in Milford, Nebraska. He is buried in the Veteran section at the Milford Cemetery. William married Frena Craley July 8, 1851 in Troy Township, Morrow County, Ohio by Robert Bar, Justice of the Peace. Frena died January 4, 1894 in Spencer, Boyd County, Nebraska(Leatha Martin Morton's genealogy). Burial place has yet to be found. Frena and William had 9 children. They are: Catherine, John, Henry, Mary, Charles, Rufus, Elizabeth, Maria, and Levi. William then married Anna Plessel (widow of Frank Benash). Boyd County Marriages found in the clerk's office and listed online have the date as August 17, 1894 (Book 1 page 60) -- William Sower and Anna Benash.
