Sowers passed away last Monday forenoon after lying helpless for almost a week following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered on Tuesday evening of last week. Sowers Dies From Stroke of Paralysis – Mr. Charles C. The Woodman lodge, of which the deceased was a member, had charge of the arrangements. Mr. Sowers was one of the early settlers in this vicinity, having come here forty-seven years ago. OBITUARY – Charles C. Sower was born in Morrow County, Ohio, September 26, 1859, and died in Wolbach, Nebraska, August 29, 1927, aged 67 years, 11 months and 3 days. He lived for a time in Ohio, and then in Indiana, whence he came to Nebraska forty seven years ago, since which time he has lived continuously in Wolbach or vicinity. He settled first in Howard county, moving to Greeley county later. He was married in Greeley county in 1884 to Miss Jessie Horn, to whom were born eight children, six of whom, with their mother, survive, namely, Mrs. Lillian Lyions, Central City, Nebraska, Mrs. Nora Jones, Stanford, Montana, Mrs. Edna Martin, Wolbach, Mrs. Myrtle Nelson, Wolbach, Mrs. Bernetta Hollenbeck, Central City, Nebraska, and Miss Leatha Sower, Wolbach. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Levi Sower, Faribault, Minnesota, Mrs. Mary Epenbaugh, Waterville, Minnesota, and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston, Wolbach; also by sixteen grandchildren. Mr. Sower first united with the Lutheran church, and later transferred his membership to the Methodist church in Wolbach, many years ago (prior to 1905), and continued his membership to the end. Sowers, 57, born Pennsylvania Frone, 54, born Pennsylvania Rufus, 18 born Ohio Charles, 21, born Ohio Elizabeth, 16, born Ohio Levi, 11, born Ohio ------- Charles had (around 1910) a restaurant and confectionery in Wolbach. A copy of an envelope or cover of a postcard has Return in 5 days to C.C. Sower, Restaurant--Confectionery Wolbach, Nebraska. It is dated July 19, 10 AM 1910 and addressed to Miss Edna Sower of St. Paul, Nebr. The Wolbach Centennial Book (1887 to 1987) pg 30: Map shows Charles Sower Drug on Block 9 Lot 2 on the nouth side of Center Avenue/Main Street by 1893. The book mentions a Mr. Root, a druggist, rented the building at one time. Edna Sowers Martin (Charles' daughter) found in her Bible the following from her Dad. Charles had a medicine wagon along with selling Watkin products. Papa's Green Salve -- balsam fir 1 3/4 oz, oil of hemlock 1 3/4 oz, white pine pitch 1 3/4 oz, Venice turpentine 1 3/4 oz, bees wax 1 3/4 oz, fine ground verdigris 3/4 oz Constipation Tea -- 2 oz sena tea, 2 pts. water, 1 lb prunes (seeded), 1/2 lb raisins, 1 lb of dates Boil ingredients about 1 1/2 hours in sena tea. 1 teaspoonful each day - dose steep prune seeds and prunes
