Miller of Lyons, Nebr., as a former true link (member) of the management of our orphanage. That God is a father and provider for the orphans he reveals also by giving them at all times friends and donators who are serving them. And one of those friends and donators of the orphans was also he whose picture appears in this edition of our orphan-newspaper, and for whose remembrance these lines are written, namely the deceased Wilhelm Miller of Lyons, Nebr. He served our orphanage from July 1907 until 1922 as a link (member) of the management. Because of this a brief recalling shall be donated to him. He served orphans without doubt also because he had lost his parents early and had to experience how comforting it is when friends of deserted children and young people are taking care of them. He was born July 29th 1851 in Lorraine, France, and emigrated after his confirmation with the parents to Canada whereas his father died two weeks upon theiarrival and his mother, four years later, died. He learned to be a cobbler but had to give it up later because of health reasons. Now he turned towards agriculture and for a short time he was also engaged in wood timber trade. In the year 1879 he took himself to a farm near Lyons, Nebr., where he worked until he moved to the city in 1911. In the year 1878 he joined in matrimony with Miss Katharina Miller and God gifted them with seven children. Whilst he was working with great energy the land, and brought up his children he was ready/open for many other services. The state of Nebraska he served as a Senator, his county as a supervisor and as a good musician an orchestra as conductor. But above all he was an energetic and active link of his community and participated also with great interest in matters of our synode. Our orphanage he has not only served in the way that he collected presents he also knew how to put his work in the right light. During the period of 15 years he participated continuously in the meetings of the management board and with his gift for observation and healthy judgement he helped to solve difficult tasks. He became ill for about one year and whilst everything was undertaken that could re-install his health again nothing would improve it. But he trusting in God and ready to die passed away on December 1st of the past year at the age of 72 years. With large participation he was buried in the community field of God (cemetery) near Lyons. Our orphanage, however, remembers him in love and gratitude and as our dear saviour gave with love the drink of water to one of his lowest in that way he will credit the dead for what he has done for our orphans. But for our orphans the true God will replace the dead and wake new friends for the many important services.
