In young manhood he went to New Zealand prospecting among the gold fields. Later he returned to England where, in 1868 he married Miss Mary A. Stephens, a sister of Mrs. Eliza Webster of Fullerton. Some four years after his marriage they moved to America, locating on a homestead near York, Nebr. Mr. Morris passed through all the trials and tribulations of the pioneer period, contending with the plague of grasshoppers in the 70's and later experiencing the drought of 1894. Unable to return to England, he remained on his homestead, finally proving up and in 1881 selling out in York County and removing to Nance County. For many years Mr. Morris lived upon a splendid 320 acre farm which he improved in the Prairie Creek valley. Here his wife died and for several years thereafter he was a resident of Fullerton. In 1891 he married Miss Jane Barbour of Fullerton, Nebraska, and of this union there still remain Albert, Nettie, Minnie, May and Myrtle, all of whom are well known in Fullerton. Of the children of the former marriage, Mrs. Ada Clayton in Beckley, Oregon, Mrs. Lillie Bilile at Kenilworth, Montana, Mrs. C. A. Thomas, Mrs. G. F. Eckles and William F. Morris all live in and about Clarks, Nebraska. On account of declining health, Mr. Morris and family went to Russellville, Arkansas about 1912. Here he became much better and the family continued to remain there 'till his death. On Jan 1st he was suddenly stricken with paralysis and lingered 'till the 4th inst., when he quietly passed away. His wife, ten children and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Webster, survive him. Mr. Morris had requested that his remains be brought to Fullerton which was accordingly done. His body was laid to rest in the family lot in Fullerton Cemetery on Friday afternoon of January 8th. A large concourse of relatives and acquaintances present testify to his sterling worth as a husband, father, neighbor, citizen and friend.
