Description	:	William M. Burrow, 91, of Waverly died on October 19 at his home in Waverly after experiencing declining health for the past several months. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Vineyard Community Church, Waverly. The family will be present at the church for visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 23. Flowers may be delivered to Nancy Magnall's residence 2004 11th Street SE, Waverly, Iowa. William Myron Burrow was born April 12, 1919, on a farm northeast of Sumner. He was the son of Leo and Mabel (Ferrin) Burrow. He was baptized in the family's rural home with his three siblings as a young boy. Bill attended Banks #5 rural school through the eighth grade. He then attended Sumner High School for three years. Following his junior year, Bill's father suffered a ruptured appendix and was hospitalized for an extended period. Bill left school to operate the family farm for one year and then returned to complete his senior year, graduating from Sumner High School in 1937. Bill farmed with his family in the Sumner area following graduation. They moved to the Frederika area in 1939. Bill worked winters at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo from 1942-1944. He married Gertrude Hazel Alcock on April 30, 1944, at the Frederika Methodist Church. They farmed in the Frederika area for 45 years. Bill was also employed working second shift for approximately ten years at Farmers Butter and Dairy Cooperative in Fredericksburg. Bill and Hazel moved to an acreage in the Waverly area in 1989. Bill continued to help with spring and fall planting and harvesting on the farm they previously owned until the age of 80. Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years. He was active in the United Methodist Men, taught Sunday School for several years, and also served as Sunday School Superintendent. Most recently, he was a member of Vineyard Community Church in Waverly. He was a 4-H leader, involved in the Farm Bureau, and served on the Bremer County Extension Council. He was an 11-year member of the Tripoli School Board, serving 5 years as President. He was a volunteer for Heifer International for approximately 20 years, traveling to Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Central America to assist low-income farmers with swine projects. He often shared about the work of Heifer International and his travels, speaking at churches and other organizations. Bill and Hazel were host couple at the Heifer Project International Ranch at Perryville, Arkansas, several times. Bill is survived by his seven children and their spouses: Clinton and Laura (Hurmence), Jacksonville, FL; Vicky and Gaylord Converse, rural Sumner; Jim and Betty (Roe), Cary, NC; Nancy and Paul Magnall, Waverly; Jerry and Adarienne (Hansen), rural Waverly; MaryJo and David Carlson, Burnsville, MN; and Ken and Beth (Imes), Waverly; 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one sister, Maxine Hemingson, Sioux City, and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Alcock, Mason City, and Gloria (Edwin) Weber, Albuquerque, NM, and his German exchange son, Karl Goebel and family, of Altdorf, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel; a granddaughter, Kalyn Converse; his brother, George; and his sister, Virginia Bock.
