Burial was made in Lakeview cemetery. William Neverson Chaffee, son of the Rev. and Mrs. W. N. Chaffee, was born at Elwood, Iowa, October \|4, 1871, and died from the effects of a sudden heart attack on March 12th. 1938, at the Cherokee state hospital, where he had been an invalid for many years. On September 23, 1902, he was married to Mabel Juliet Carlton, who survives him. He leaves also two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ella D. Paul of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Irene J. Brown of Dysart, Iowa, and Frank M. Chaffee of Los Angeles, Calif., also three nephews and two nieces. During the years Mr. Chaffee was active in business, he was employed as salesman in various lines, and was also associated with his brothers in the Lyceum Bureau business in Chicago. In 1916 Mr. Chaffee made Spirit Lake his headquarters so that Mrs. Chaffee might assist in the care of an invalid brother in the home of. her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Carlton. A few years later Mr. Chaffee suffered a nervous breakdown and became permanently invalided. In health, he possessed a charming personality. He was affectionate and generous, always espousing the cause of the unfortunate. Especially tender ties bound him to the members of his own family and he was much beloved by them. Kindly death has released him from his years of suffering and as suggested in the words of Rev. T. B. Collins, he has found heath and home in the Father's house of many mansions. Obituary is published in The Spirit Lake Beacon, March 17, 1938. ----------- Mrs. Mabel Chaffce arrived home Saturday morning after having spent the winter in California, and the past six weeks at Bartlesville, Okla., with her sister, Miss Esther Carlton. Within an hour after arriving home she was called to Cherokee, Iowa, due to the serious illness of Mr. Chaffee. Mrs. Chaffee left immediately for the hospital, but Mr. Chaffee had passed away before her arrival. *Published in the Spirit lake Beacon, March 17, 1938. -----------
