He was born in Humboldt, on April 15, 1924, the son of Cloud Sherwood and Eulalia Lillian (Palstring) Barnett. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941 and received a BS degree in Agriculture and Food Technology from Oregon State University in 1952. He was born in Humboldt, on April 15, 1924, the son of Cloud Sherwood and Eulalia Lillian (Palstring) Barnett. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941 and received a BS degree in Agriculture and Food Technology from Oregon State University in 1952. Bill served his country in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1947, as an Aviation Machinist Mate First USN, before receiving his honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Carol Parkhurst in Los Angeles, CA in 1944. They divorced in 1991. Bill worked as a plant manager in the food processing industry for Sunnyland Juice Company and Dude Ranch Foods. He also worked at Maxx Factor and in the logging industry, as well as making stained glass windows for Carrot Company. He was a member and past president of the Humboldt Historical Society and a member of the SEK Rock and Mineral Club. He was an avid rock and bottle collector. He restored the cannon at the Humboldt Historical Museum. He made marbles for over 50 years, raised peacocks, and was an avid reader. Bill is survived by a daughter, Celia Faith Knight of Los Angeles, CA; a granddaughter, Pandora Kronenburg of Los Angeles, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Colin Walker and Riley Walker, both of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rebecca Hope Barnett; brothers, Rex Sherwood Barnett, Robert Nelson Barnett, and James Earl Barnett; a sister, Maida Beth (Barnett) Johnson; and an infant sibling. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. Memorials in his name may be made to the Humboldt Historical Society or the Humboldt Public Library and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements
