Description	:	William McKinley Peck 2/27/1897 - 10/13/1980 William McKinley Peck the son of John and Ossie (Wood) Peck was born February 27, 1897 at Liberty, Kentucky where he also attended school. At the age of 14 he came to Woden, Iowa and lived with his Uncle Edward (5/9/1876 - 5/9/1943) and Aunt Catherine (Barth) Wood (12/1/1883 - 8/11/1942). On September 8, 1917, William married Gertie Ethel Nance (9/26/1900 - 3/5/1957) in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In 1918, he worked at the Ohio Match Company in Wadsworth, Ohio. It was while in Wadsworth, on April 17, 1918, that they lost their first child, a son. Clyde was born and died on April 17, 1918. William and Gertie returned to Iowa and lived in various places in Kossuth, Winnebago, and Hancock Counties, later farming in the Crystal Lake community. It was after his beloved wife, Gertie died in 1957 after a fall down basement stairs, that he retired from farming in 1958 and moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, He also worked at Memorial Park cemetery in Mason City for a number of years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Britt, Iowa. Services for William Peck, 83, of Clear lake, Iowa formerly of Crystal Lake, Iowa who died Monday at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Clear Lake, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with Rev. Edward P. Corbett of the Baptist Church in Clear Lake, Iowa as officiant. Mrs. Robert Holt, organist, will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Jack DeVries who will sing as a duet. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Dennis Brower, Douglas Lewerke, Ronald Tannahill, Russell Peck, Greg Peck, James Jorgenson, Charles Schmidt and Randy Peck. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa. William is survived by his children; Mrs. Henry (Evelyn) Brower of Clear Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Jacob (Bernelle) Lewerke of Clarion, Iowa, Mrs. Eldon (Gladys) Waldschmidt of Bakersfield, California, Mrs Clyde (Edna) Tannahill of Forest City, Iowa, Donald Peck and his wife Arlene of Zearing, Iowa, Willard Peck Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Britt, Iowa, Mrs. Ralph (Violet) Jorgensen of garner, Iowa, Wilbur Duane Peck and his wife Adeline of Forest City, Iowa, Mrs. Darl (Darlene) Schmidt of Garner, Iowa and Mrs. Sharon Garrett of Charleston, South Carolina; 48 grandchildren; 3 great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Janie Wright of Wheaton, Illinois and a half sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Viola) Hall of Kanawha. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Nance Peck (9/26/1900 - 3/5/1957); two sons, Clyde (born and died 4/17/1918) and Glen Conrad (2/20/25 - 6/4/1956); two granddaughters, Patricia Anne Lewerke (12/3/1942 - 12/4/1942) and Karen K. (Tannahill) Green (3/11/1942 - 6/26/1979); four grandsons, twins, Michael Ray Peck (born and died 8/1/1949), Mitchell Ray Peck (born and died 8/1/1949), Richard "Dick" Jorgensen (10/29/1950 - 2/6/1970) and Rodney L. Ruby (10/17/1950 - 4/8/1975); his parents, father, John Peck (1870 - 1900), mother, Ossie (Wood) Peck-Smith (9/29/1873 - 5/51953) and step father, Morris Smith (3/10/1871 - 11/4/1957); two sisters, Mrs. Vinnie Roberts (2/17/1895 - 4/14/1971) and Mrs. Mae Sanders; two step brothers, Harold Smith (7/21/1903 - 9/ /1979) and Richard Smith (7/1/1908 - 10/30/1979)
