William Porter Steadman was born in Herkimer County, New York, June 8, 1827, being 95 years, 5 months, and 12 days old. He moved to Adams County, Iowa, nearly 52 years ago. He moved to Adams County, Iowa, nearly 52 years ago. He was a parent of eight children, his wife and three children being deceased. He has 28 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. The surviving children are: W. M. Steadman, Nodaway; Mrs. O. M. Morris, Evanston, Illinois; Mrs. Dr. J. F. Peterson, Emporia, Kansas; C. H. Steadman and Mrs. William Cartwright, both of Nodaway. William Steadman was a member of the Baptist Church and has always been a firm believer. He often remarked he prayed we would be an unbroken family around God’s throne, and we feel he has gone to one who Carter for us all. Who has prepared a bright and beautiful home beyond the grave. The funeral services were held at the home of his son, Wednesday at 2 o’clock. Was buried at the Nodaway Cemetery. He married Almira Jane Congdon in 1854. They had eight children in 24 years. He died on November 20, 1922, in Iowa, at the age of 95, and was buried in Nodaway, Iowa.
