This William Proctor, of Adjala Township, is sometimes confused with William Proctor, of King Township, who was born in 1814 in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, and died in 1884 in King Township, York County, Ontario. He is buried there in the Proctor Cemetery and he was the son of John Proctor Jr. (1788-1865) and Mary Hill who came to Canada in 1830/1831 with their four children, William, John, Mary and Ann. This William Proctor, of Adjala Township, is sometimes confused with William Proctor, of King Township, who was born in 1814 in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, and died in 1884 in King Township, York County, Ontario. He is buried there in the Proctor Cemetery and he was the son of John Proctor Jr. (1788-1865) and Mary Hill who came to Canada in 1830/1831 with their four children, William, John, Mary and Ann. Link to William of King William, of Adjala, came to Canada around the same time. He bought land in Adjala in February 1836 and married there in 1840. Though his gravestone in St. John's Cemetery is badly eroded, it can be seen that it came from a stone mason in Newmarket, York County - a long way to travel to buy a monument in 1882. Perhaps this is a clue to a possible connection with the York County Proctors. Laois/Leix County Ireland is a small county directly north of County Kilkenny where John Proctor & Mary Hill lived before migrating to Canada. Wayne Proctor (gr-gr grandson of William of Adjala) discovered, through a researcher in Ireland, that there was one Proctor in the County Laois area who may have been William's father and his name was also William. Not much to go on, but leaving the door open to a remote possibility that William, of Adjala, was a cousin to William, of King, and a nephew of John Proctor (1788-1865) who was known to have an elder brother, William.
