"Bill" Starr, 90, of La Porte City, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes. He was born July 24, 1921 in Jefferson, the son of John H. and Elva Kline Starr. He married Grace L. Carney on August 16, 1941 in Bethany, MO; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2004. "Bill" Starr, 90, of La Porte City, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes. He was born July 24, 1921 in Jefferson, the son of John H. and Elva Kline Starr. He married Grace L. Carney on August 16, 1941 in Bethany, MO; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the LPC American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207 and the Ascalon Masonic Lodge #393 of Dysart, where he held many offices such as Senior Warden and Worshipful Master. He retired after working many years as a Safety Director for many different Rock Producers. He was a certified Red Cross Instructor and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survived by: two sons, William P. (Ann) Starr and Robert Starr all of La Porte City; two grandchildren, Brenda (Jim) McCarville of Sarasota, FL, Diana (Paul) Romine of Des Moines; five great grandchildren, Ryan, Brant, Megan, Cole and Christian; one sister, Helen Pelz of Marion and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Heather McNamara; one brother, John Starr and a sister, Hazel Wilson. Services: will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at the American Lutheran Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the LPC American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207 and the VFW Post 3983. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at La Porte City Funeral Service where there will be a 7 p.m. Masonic service, by the Ascalon Lodge #393 of Dysart. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.
