Description	:	William R. Gregory, oldest son of Omar and Rebecka Gregory, was born in Henry county, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1852, and departed this life at the home of his son, R. A. Gregory in Jewell county, Kansas, Aug 23, 1927 at the age of 75 years, 6 months, an 11 days. He attended the public school near Salem, Iowa. April 17 1873, he was united in marriage with Mary S. Gregory, oldest son of Omar and Rebecka Gregory, was born in Henry county, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1852, and departed this life at the home of his son, R. A. Gregory in Jewell county, Kansas, Aug 23, 1927 at the age of 75 years, 6 months, an 11 days. He attended the public school near Salem, Iowa. April 17 1873, he was united in marriage with Mary S. Smith at the home of the bride near Salem, Iowa. In the fall of the same year they moved overland to Osbrone county, Kansas, in comany with his father and mother and seven brothers and four sisters, and with others of the Friends faith, settled in Mt. Ayr township where they endured the hardships of pioneer life. No sooner had this party of Friends turned the prairie sod than the church and school were their first thought. He, with his wife, early felt the call to definite Christian service, to which they earnestly gave first place in their lives, serving as pastors at Savenburg and near Glen Elder, Kansas, and at various times as evangelists in various meetings in Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. To this union were born and remain to mourn the loss of a father: R. A. Gregory and Mae Norris of Burr Oak, Kansas; J. C. Gregory Osborne, Kansas; E. C. Gregory, Hutton Valley, Mo.; Floy Barber, Alton, Kansas; and Sadie Hunting, Salem, Iowa. Also 35 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, with the faithful companion of over 54 years, are left to mourn the loss with a host of relatives and friends and the following brothers and sisters: Obediah, Jesse, Ziba, Edward and Gilbert all of Alton, Kansas, Elisha, Reidsville, North Carolina, Joseph, Topeka, Kansas, Betty Sampson, Santa Cruz, California, and Agelina Barnes, Sedan, Kansas. Elmira, Stuart, Anna Curl, and Allen Gregory preceeded him to the Great Beyond and there with father and mother welcome our loved one to the mansion not made with hands. Funeral services were held at the Mt. Ayr church Friday at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. L. L. Craven assisted by Rev. Clio Brown and others. Interment was made in the Mt. Ayr cemetery.
