KUHNS PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY HE HAD RESIDED IN JONES COUNTY FOR PERIOD OF SEVENTY-TWO YEARS William R. Kuhs, 81, a respected resident of Scotch Grove township, passed away at the home of his son, Harry, yesterday morning at 9:35 o'clock. Although not in rugged health, he had been able to do some work about the farm last Friday. He became ill with erysipelas over the week-end, and died suddenly yesterday morning. Mr. Kuhns was born May 17, 1851 in Westmorland county, Pennsylvania. He came to Iowa with his parents when 9 years of age and settled in Scotch Grove township. He was united in marriage to Gesche Margaretha Hayen, September 25, 1879. Mr. and Mrs. Kuhns lived in the neighborhood of Pairieburg for eighteen months, and thereafter removed to a farm near Scotch Grove, where they continued to make their home until March 1, 1915. On that date they gave up active life on the farm and removed to Monticello, where they lived for eight years in the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Cass. Mrs. Kuhns passed away June 6, 1923. Mr. and Mrs. Kuhns became the parents of four children, one of whom died in early infancy. Those surviving their father are; Mrs, Charles Henrichs of Wayne township, and Lestus and Harry Kuhs of Scotch Grove township. In addition to these children,he is survived by twelve grandchildren, and by two brothers, Joseph A. Kuhns of Scotch Grove, and John Louis Kuhns of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After coming to Monticello, Mr. Kuhns joined St. Matthew's Lutheran church. He took a deep interest in the work and welfare of this church and was always ready to offer what help he could. He took much interest in the new church building when it was completed. In recent years, since he sold his home in Monticello and lived with his son Harry, at Scotch Grove, it was his custom to come to Monticello on numerous occasions for the purpose of attending church. Mr. Kuhns was a kindly man, who had many friends in whatever community he made his home. Funeral services for him will be held next services will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kuhns in Scotch Grove, and final services will be held in St. Matthew's church in Monticello at about 10:30 o'clock. His body will be laid to rest by the side of his wife in Oakwood cemetery.
