Description	:	William Rex Bourland, the son of John and Iva (Ash) Bourland, was born at Gates, Nebraska, on February 22, 1924, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 3, 1997, at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 21 days. He grew up on a farm near Gates, and later moved to Broken Bow, where he attended Jr. High School, and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1942. Read More	William Rex Bourland, the son of John and Iva (Ash) Bourland, was born at Gates, Nebraska, on February 22, 1924, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 3, 1997, at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 21 days. He grew up on a farm near Gates, and later moved to Broken Bow, where he attended Jr. High School, and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1942. Following graduation, he began working for the C.B. & Q Railroad. On May 14, 1943, he was united in marriage to Twila Maxine Bowley at Broken Bow, where they made their home. Rex served his country during World War Two in the U.S. Army, from October 20, 1943, until his discharge in January 21, 1946. Following his discharge he returned to Broken Bow, and was track foreman on the railroad. In 1961, they moved to Crete, where he was promoted to track supervisor, and in 1966, they moved to Aurora, and he was made roadmaster, a position he held until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church, was a past commander of the Aurora V.F.W. Post #4993, belonged to the American Legion, was a member of the Grand Island Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #378, and the Aurora Country Club. He also belonged to a traveling golf league and a bowling league. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, John and Max; 2 sisters, Helena and Patricia Bourland, and 3 infant brothers. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Maxine, of Aurora; 2 daughters, Dianna De Myers of Lafayette, Tennessee, and Pamela Jean Ried of Lincoln; one brother, Hank of Litchfield; 2 sisters, Irma Ballenger of Lowell, Oregon, and Elizabeth "Betty" Ackerman of Oakland, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
