Read More	SOURCE: Greenville News, Pg 5 DATE: 15 January 1942 STEWART, 70, DIES OF HEAD INJURIES FOUND ON STREET YESTERDAY -- WOUND ORIGIN IS MYSTERY William Riley Stewart, 70, for 23 years a member of the city police department, died at his home at 21 David street at 8:30 Wednesday night as a result of injuries received Wednesday morning. He was found near the corner of Buncombe and Mulberry streets suffering from a head injury and was carried to the hospital for treatment and later returned to his home. How that injury was received has not been determined, an official said. He was native of Greenville county, a son of the late George and Margaret (Moon) Stewart; and was a member of the City View Baptist church. For a number of years Mr. Stewart was employed at the Union Bleachery. He served under Chief Noe on the police force. At the time of his death he was the night watchman at the Ideal laundry. His wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Barbare Stewart, survives him with two daughters, Miss Nell Stewart and Mrs. Lula S. Moon of Greenville and by one sister Mrs. Fannie Few of Greer. One grandchild also survives. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Stewart have not been completed but will be announced later by James F. STEWART Pending word from out-of-town realtives, funeral arrangements have not been completed for William Riley Stewart, whose death occured at his home, 21 David Street, at 8:30 o'clock Wednesday night, but will be announced later today from the offices of James F. Mackey & Sons. Mr. Stewart, who was in his 71st year, received head injuries early Wednesday morning, for which he received treatment at the hospital, after which he returned to his home. He was a member of City View Baptist Church. Over a period of 23 years of service on the city police force, he made many friends. He also was associated for many years with the Union Bleachery, and at the time of his death was with the Ideal Laundry as night watchman. His wife, Mrs. Mary Barbara Stewart, survives him with two daughters, Miss Nell Stewart and Mrs. Lula S. Moon, county attendance teacher, both of this city. In addition, he leaves one grandson, William Moon.
