Barker was born near Kilbourn, Adams county, Wis., July 6, 1854 and died at the home of his son, Lee, in Burr Oak, Iowa, Tuesday, April 10, 1917, aged 62 years and 9 months. When 11 years of age he moved with his parents to Burr Oak, Mitchell county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Barker was born near Kilbourn, Adams county, Wis., July 6, 1854 and died at the home of his son, Lee, in Burr Oak, Iowa, Tuesday, April 10, 1917, aged 62 years and 9 months. When 11 years of age he moved with his parents to Burr Oak, Mitchell county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Dec. 26, 1879, he was married to Miss Anna Shaff and the next spring they made their home on a farm near Estelline, S. D. Here seven children came to gladden the hone, five boys and two girls,and three of the boys were lost in a fire. In the fall of 1896 Mr. Barker moved his family to the farm where he died. This was their home, with the exception of four years, spent in Osge, until November 1915, when his son, Lee, took the farm and Mr. and Mrs. Barker moved to their present home in Osage. After their return to Burr Oak, another son came to the home for a few months only. On the 12th of June, 1897, Mr. and Mrs. Barker united with the Free Baptist church at Burr Oak, where they still hold their membership. There remains on this side, his wife and three children, Ida, Mrs. Clinton Carrison. of Burr Oak, Ethel, Mrs. Arthur Minnis, near Riceville, and Lee at Burr Oak. Two brothers, E. A. Barker of Osage, and Eugene, of Little Cedar. Mr. Barker went to his farm Monday April 9, to help with the seeding. He worked in the forenoon and while at the dinner table was taken sick gradually growing worse until Tuesday evening about 6:35 p.m. he passed away. He was a member of the Woodman camp, also of the Masonic Lodge. That Mr. Barker was well known and very highly respected was shown in the very large attendance at the funeral of old neighbors and friends, and the beautiful floral offerings. The service was held at his home in Osage Thursday, April 12, at 1 p.m. conducted by his former pastor, Rev. M. D. Mack, assisted by Rev.Brown and laid to rest in the Osage cemetery beside his two sons.
