Description	:	Several years have been suggested by various sources as William's birthdate: 1876, 1878, 1881, 1884 and 1886 but many do not match with census data recorded by his parents over a long period of time and even census data that William reported himself in his younger years. According to the 1917-1918 World War I Draft Registration Card that he signed in Shelby Co., TX. William Rutherford Wilson was born May 25, 1876. According to the 1917-1918 World War I Draft Registration Card that he signed in Shelby Co., TX. William Rutherford Wilson was born May 25, 1876. This date also coincides with the date inferred by information on the 1880 Federal Census. The 1880 Federal Census lists Wm. as a 4 yr. old son of J.C. and Susan Wilson and born in TN. His brother Andrew is 1 yr. old. [n.b. Rutherford B. Hayes was elected President in 1876 and this could also be a possible source for his middle name.] There is no 2 yr. old listed on the census thus the 1878 date is not likely. On the 1900 census, his mother indicates that she has had 8 children and that all are living. This would not support any theory that the 4 year old William later died and that a subsequent male child born to them at a later date was renamed William. As yet, our William has not been located on the 1900 census records. His daughter Annie Faye helped him with his Social Security application and also the purchase and installation of the gravestone. Both of these dates indicate that he was born in 1884 which also coincides with the age he gave at his marriage to Annie Belle McDuffie. Most choose to believe the date he wrote on his draft registration and also the information given by his parents when he was only 4 years of age.
