Description	:	William S. Cooper, 85, passed away at his home in Manhattan on Thursday, January 13, 2005. He was born on March 13, 1919, in White Sulphur Springs, Mont., to William and Mabel (Wurm) Cooper. Bill attended school in Manhattan, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1938. Cooper, 85, passed away at his home in Manhattan on Thursday, January 13, 2005. He was born on March 13, 1919, in White Sulphur Springs, Mont., to William and Mabel (Wurm) Cooper. Bill attended school in Manhattan, graduating from Manhattan High School in 1938. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 27, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 20, 1945. Bill married Adeline Anderson on Nov. 30, 1945, in Battle Ground, Wash. The couple returned to Manhattan that same year and to this union had two daughters, Betty and Beverly. Adeline passed away on April 25, 1955. Bill then married Mary Catherine Flint in Manhattan on Jan. 7, 1960. Bill worked for the Auto Inn, Kamp Implement, and Owenhouse Hardware as a mechanic. He purchased the Auto Inn, which he operated until his retirement. Bill served as the Manhattan Fire Chief, a leader of the Junior Rifle Club, a Charter Member of the Manhattan Bible Church, and a member of the Manhattan Masonic Lodge. He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Montana Bowling Hall of fame in 1998. Horseshoes was another of Bill's passions' and he was inducted into their hall of fame in 1999. He refurbished boats and cars for resale, loved cooking (making famous cinnamon rolls for everyone to enjoy), especially enjoyed making boxes of goodies for his grandkids and their families at Christmas. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Cay of Manhattan; daughters, Betty (Harold) Olson of Conrad, Mont., Beverly (Doug) Mason of North Liberty, Iowa; stepdaughter, Vicki Manning of Butte; stepson, Dennis (Dorothy) Clinton of St. Matthews, S.C.; sister, Joy Gover of Victor, Mont.; and brother, Howard (Shirley) Cooper of Lewistown. Ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alva and George and two sisters, June and Blanche. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Manhattan Bible Church.
