Read More	Date of birth is approximate from census Death of W. S. Spencer Tuesday afternoon City Marshal John Spencer received the sad intelligence that his aged father, W. S. Spencer, had passed from this life very suddenly at The Dalles, Oregon, where he had gone some weeks ago on a visit to a daughter, whom he had not seen for some years, and with the hope that the change would benefit his declining health. On Tuesday morning Mr. Spencer received a letter from his father stating that he was improving and had gained ten pounds, and was feeling much better. This was followed in the afternoon by the telegram announcing his death. The remains will be brought here to be buried beside his wife who died some years ago. In 1880, with his family, W. S. Spencer crossed the plains in a prairie schooner, headed for the new Eldorado, Colorado, then attracting attention in the east. He arrived in Buena Vista late in the fall, settled here and had since called this immediate vicinity his home. In the early history of Buena Vista and Chaffee county he was prominently identified, having held several important offices in tho government of the city. The deceased is survived by six children, four daughters and two sons, the latter two residing in this city. The oldest, John, having filled the important position of city marshal for a number of years . The daughters reside in Kansas and California.
