Mr. Webster was the son of the late Orvil and Roby Mandigo Web- ster. He was born in Canton in Jackson county Aug. 27, 1864. When he was 13 years of age, he went to Johnsontown and worked through the summer season and for the next seven years he was employed chop- ping wood for Dr. Alex McKean. His marriage to Alta E. Baldwin occurred March 2, 1885 and in 1935 this couple observed their golden wedding at their farm home in Scotch Grove. For seven years following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Webster lived on the Duncan Dreibelbis farm and Mr. Webster grubbed out nearly 400 acres of land for his employer. The couple then started farming for themselves near Scotch Grove where they remained until a couple of years ago when the family home was established in Monticello. Mr. and Mrs. Webster became the parents of 11 children, two of whom, Levi and Francis Alonzo Webster, preceeded their father in death. Those surviving are William D. Webster of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Lena Behnke of Canton; Mrs. Lee Rath- bun, Mrs. Lloyd Pickett and Mrs. Frank Wright, all of Monticello; Mrs.Chauncey Mowrey of Ana- mosa; Mrs.Tom Moore of Maquo- keta; Viola Webster of Scotch Grove and James Webster of Monti- cello. There are also 32 grand- children and seven great-grandchil- dren. Besides his wife and children Mr. Webster is survived by one brother, J. L. Webster of Beachville, Ontario, Canada, and two sisters, Eleanor Webster of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Belle James of Burlington. Mr. Webster was a great lover of dogs and his chief life sport was the raising of fox hounds and hunt- ing all kinds of game.
