Read More	In the death of William Songster, the Exeter community mourns the passing of one of its oldest and most highly respected pioneer citizens. Coming to this section with his parents in 1877, Mr. Songster lived within a quarter of a mile of his original home here for sixty years. The end came with little warning. Although Mr. Songster had suffered to some extent from heart trouble in recent years, he had followed his usual activities to the last. He was in Exeter Monday morning and in the evening at about 7 o'clock he was stricken with cerebral hemorrhage and succumbed at noon Tuesday. William, son of William and Priscilla Songster, was born March 5, 1870 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and was 67 years, 5 months and 19 days of age at the time of his death, August 24, 1937. He came to Nebraska with his parents, arriving in Exeter March 15, 1877. He grew to manhood on the home farm two and one-half miles south of Exeter, and on September 7, 1893, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Griffee and moved to their present home one-fourth mile north of his parents home. To this union were born seven children, all of whom are living. He was one of a family of seven children, with one brother, Calvin, preceding him in death. At the age of twenty-three years he was united with the Christian Church at Exeter and was a faithful member to the last. He served as deacon for many years and always enjoyed his fellowship with the church. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Those who are left to mourn his death are his wife, Gertrude; his children, Mrs. Elsie Arrowsmith of Denver, Col., Charles of Hastings, Mrs. Nellie Gillan of Fairmont, Harry of Hastings, Cline, William and Robert of Exeter; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Dennis and Bernard of Exeter; three sisters, Jennie Hunt and Laura Griffee of Exeter; Sophia Kreider of Horton, Kas., besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Christian Church, Rev. John G. Albers of Lincoln officiating. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal Sept. 1937 Contributor: M.
