Description	:	SALISBURY - William Spencer Simerson Jr., 82, of Old Mocksville Road, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center. Born Dec. 24, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Simerson was the son of the late William S. and Minnie Proctor Simerson of Salisbury. A graduate of Spencer High School and Salisbury Business College, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was active in Sunday School, as a past director, deacon, trustee, teacher, and youth director. Read More	SALISBURY - William Spencer Simerson Jr., 82, of Old Mocksville Road, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center. Born Dec. 24, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Simerson was the son of the late William S. and Minnie Proctor Simerson of Salisbury. A graduate of Spencer High School and Salisbury Business College, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was active in Sunday School, as a past director, deacon, trustee, teacher, and youth director. He helped organize the Ellis Fire Department and was an active fireman for many years. He was also active in the PTA, Band Parents and Athletic Department. A veteran of World War II, he was a past member of the Milford Hills Lions Club and the Rowan Rose Society. He retired as supervisor from Piedmont Natural Gas Company with 42 years of service. Mr. Simerson was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Snider Simerson, who died Feb. 17, 1988. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Huff Simerson; son William Dwight Simerson of Garner; daughters Donna Ward of Melbourne, Fla., and Hollie Sheets of Salisbury; stepdaughters Deborah Hall, Susan Owen-Leinert and Karen Huff, all of Salisbury.Also surviving are sisters Sue Niblock (Kenneth) of Cool Springs and Mary Lee of Salisbury; brother Boyd Simerson of Salisbury; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Visitation: The family will be at Summersett Funeral Home tonight from 7-8:30; and at other times at the home.Service: The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Rick Cockerham, pastor, and the Rev. Bobby Seagroves will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Memorials: Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2255 E. Ridge Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
