Description	:	William Pinette William "Bill" Stanley Pinette passed away in Colville on June 10, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born on June 21, 1920, the son of Stanley and Maude (Anderson) Pinette in Puyallup. Bill grew up in Tacoma, where he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. Read More	William Pinette William "Bill" Stanley Pinette passed away in Colville on June 10, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born on June 21, 1920, the son of Stanley and Maude (Anderson) Pinette in Puyallup. Bill grew up in Tacoma, where he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. When he was younger, he was very active in the school orchestra, playing the violin and viola, even playing with the Seattle Symphony. After high school, Bill worked in the Civilian Construction Corps and Forest Service, building trails in the Mt. Rainier area. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was stationed in England during WWII as a navigator, later returning to the States to train fighter pilots. He flew many missions over Germany and France in B-17's and was shot down twice, landing once in the English Channel, and the other time in France, where the French Resistance hid him in a cellar for several weeks. After the war, Bill was nominated to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, but decided not to at¬tend. After his honorable discharge in 1947, he taught at a small flight school with two of his friends in Tacoma. He also worked as a logger, operated his own automotive repair shops, and for the National Park Service on the development of the Kettle Falls Marina.In 1949, he met Arlene Carson through mutual friends and in 1955, Bill and Arlene were married in Colville. In 1962, Bill took a job helping to build the road into Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. In 1966, he moved the family to King Salmon, Alaska, where he managed a year-round salmon research station for the National Marine Fisheries Service, and served as the agency pilot/mechanic until 1979. He finished off his last two years before retirement working on the fish ladders around the various dams of the Columbia River. After retirement, he served as the Stevens County District No. 6 Fire Commissioner from 1985 to 1991. In 1993, Bill and Arlene bought a second home in Twisp and spent a lot of their time from 1993 to 2005 driving back and forth between the two places to keep them going. In 2005, they moved their mobile home from Twisp back to the home place at Kettle Falls, and have lived there ever since. Some of his interests through life included racing stock Hudson's and later collecting Hudson's. He was also a mechanic extraordinaire, a good photographer, and enjoyed camping, gardening and landscaping. Bill is survived by his five children and their spouses, six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. A Memorial Service for Bill will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 23 at the Kettle Falls Seventh Day Adventist Church. Contributor: ChuckNorris (46884447)
