William Stover Boysen was born on January 15, 1920, and was a third generation to live on the Boysen Farm 4 1/4 miles southwest of Havelock. He was the son of Will and Gladys (Stover) Boysen. Boysen - age 97, of Havelock, passed away Thursday, March 23,2017, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. William Stover Boysen was born on January 15, 1920, and was a third generation to live on the Boysen Farm 4 1/4 miles southwest of Havelock. He was the son of Will and Gladys (Stover) Boysen. William moved with his parents to Havelock when he was eight years old. He attended school at Havelock, graduating in 1937 and chose farming as his career. In 1942, William enlisted in the Army Air Forces, graduating from the Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, AZ. He married Roma Gundelach on May 20, 1944, at Phoenix, AZ, where William was assigned to the instructor training program. Moves included Rankin Field, Tulare, CA and Minter Field, near Bakersfield,CA and back to Havelock in 1945. From 1947, the couple lived on the acreage at the east edge of town, where his parents had lived before them. William served sixteen years on the Havelock-Plover School Board and three years on the County School Board. He was one of the organizing members of the Northwest Telephone Cooperative Association, as well as a councilman, a committeeman of the Boy Scout Troop 38 in the 1960's, a director of the Farmer's Cooperative Elevator of Pocahontas, Havelock and Plover in the 1970's and a longtime director of the Pocahontas Mutual Insurance Association. As a lifetime member of the Havelock Methodist Church, he held numerous offices and was on the church building committee in 1960 and was a member of the parsonage building committee in 1975. During their retirement years, William and Roma enjoyed many winters in Chandler, AZ. After Roma's death in February 2005, he moved from Havelock into Arlington Assisted Living, Pocahontas, and from there to the Laurens Care Center in 2013. Survivors include his children, Bruce (Judy) Boysen of Havelock, Brian(Claudia) Boysen of Eden Prairie, MN, Barbara (Jeff) Larsen of St. Petersburg,FL and Brent (Jackie) Boysen of Havelock; seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Roma and many other friends and relatives
