Sherman Urich, 80, a former Ottumwan, died Tuesday at the Des Moines home of a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Adams. He was born June 28, 1867 [sic], at Dayton, Ohio, but had lived in Ottumwa 40 years pervious to moving to Des Moines last May. Survivors include his wife, Bridget; five daughters, Mary Urich, Ottumwa, Mrs. Thomas Adams and Mrs. Thelma Johnson, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Guendlen [sic] Perkins, California, and Miss Forrest Urich, Kansas; four sons, George and Lew Urich, Ottumwa, and Mike and Elzie Urich, both of Des Moines, and two brothers living in Dayton. The body is being brought to the Vaughan funeral home awaiting completion of arrangements. “URICH SERVICES,” From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Thursday, September 8, 1949: Funeral services for Sherman Urich, who died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Adams, in Des Moines, will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Vaughan funeral home, and at 9 a.m. in the St. Patrick’s Catholic church. A requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. T.C. Donohoe, pastor. Burial will be in Point Isabel cemetery. Friends will meet tonight at 8:15 at the Vaughan funeral home to recite the rosary.
