They had two children: * Laura Frances, Mrs Chester Breaw born in Yreka, CA 17 Jun 1900 died 1966 * Clementine Bibb born 22 Apr 1903 in Dunsmuir, CA died 1987 William was a mining engineer, and the informant on his death certificate was his second wife, Ethel Clementine Shurtleff. William will continue in his present business where he is now. Mr Shurtleff is also engaged in the real estate business and reports some business in this section. On 03 Oct 1872 his father sold the house in Nevada City, on Piety Hill, where he had lived with his second wife, Lodema Caroline Percival Shurtleff, and took William with him to Normal, Illinois, where his brother, Mathew Samuel Shurtleff moved to with his family n 1865. The Evening Gazette, Reno Nevada, 07 Apr 1927, p2 DIED Shurtleff - In Reno, April 7, 1927, William T, dearly beloved husband of Ethel C Shurtleff and loving father of Laura and Clementine Shurtleff, aged 74 years, 8 months, twenty eight days. A native of Canada. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The Grass Valley Morning Union, 12 Apr 1927, p4 William T Shurtleff Passes away at Reno On Thursday last at Reno occurred the death of William T Shurtleff, many years a resident of Nevada City. Although he left his city many years ago, Mr Shurtleff will be kindly remembered by the older generation of Nevada City Residents by whom he was held in high esteem. He has been a resident of Reno for a number of years past. He was a native of the Province of Quebec and came to this city when a boy. He grew to manhood here and followed various occupations. Of late years she has been engaged in the mining business. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Miss Laura Shurtleff who is an instructor in the University of Nevada at Reno, and Miss Clemie Shurtleff who is an instructor at the University of Arizona. Clarence Shurtleff of this city is his sole surviving brother, and a sister, Mrs George Flint resides in New York. His obit is listed in the Sacramento Bee where his listed as a Mother Lode miner who died suddenly at his home in Reno, as well as the Grass Valley Morning Union who lists his daughters as Miss Laura, an instructor at the University of Nevada at Reno and Miss Clemie who is an instructor at the university of Arizona. His birth year is listed as 1852, 1853 and the stone says 1854. The obit lists his age as 74 years, 8 months and 28 days, making his birth July 10, 1852.
