Mr. Rickly came to Geneva from Omaha seven years ago, and was joined several years later by his daughter, Miss Eulalia of Omaha, who resides at the home of her father. Mr. Rickly, who was seventy-six years of age, carried on his work as bookkeeper and cashier at the store until a few days before his death. He was born in Columbus, O., April 22, 1850, the son of the late John Rickly, one of the founders of the city of Columbus, Neb. His father, with several Ohio men, came to Nebraska in the fall of 1856, stopping at Omaha a short time. They then went on west and laid out the town of Columbus, naming it after their former home, Columbus, O. He brought his family out the spring of 1857, when the deceased was a boy of seven years of age. His father erected a sawmill, grist mill and general store with many other business interests. They hauled lumber to Omaha with ox teams, bringing back provisions for the store. Mr. Rickly was married in 1872 to Mary Alice Matthews, in London, Canada. She passed away several years ago. They had five children, two dying in infancy. A son, William J. Rickly, died in 1916. Mr. Rickly is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. W. L. Chenoweth and Miss Eulalia Rickly and four grandsons, Ralph, Milton and Billy Rickly of Osceola and Billy Chenoweth. there are also three sisters, and two brothers;, Mrs. A. L. Archer and Samuel S. Rickly of Julesburg, Col., Mrs. R. C. Burke and Mrs. C. J. Dale of Omaha and Charles E. Rickly of Los Angeles. Mr. Rickly was taken ill Sunday noon, but was not thought serious until shortly before his death. he passed away quietly at 6:15 Thursday evening. A short funeral service was conducted by Rev. David Tudor of the Congregational Church at the late residence of Mr. Rickly Saturday morning and the body was taken to Columbus, his former home where the funeral service was held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Federated Church, conducted by Rev. Thomas Griffiths of Lincoln, with burial by the side of his wife in the Columbus Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal May 1926
