Jansen, 81, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 18, 1977, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids. Jansen was born May 30, 1896 near Onslow, the son of Andrew D. and Anna Von Sprecken Jansen. He received his early education in the Onslow schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith Jan. 1, 1920 in the Wayne Zion Lutheran church, Monticello. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World war I. Jansen and Hattie A. Zimmerman were married Dec. 15, 1920 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church and the couple farmed in Wayne township for 26 years prior to Jansen's retirement in 1946 when they moved to their present home in Amber. He was active in community affairs. He served as secretary of the Wayne township schools from 1938 to 1962. He had been president of the Jones county Farm Bureau, charter and 50 year member of the Arthur McCullough American Legion Post No. 13, Anamosa, a member of the VFW and served as treasurer of the Anamosa rural fire association. He was also an active church member serving as an officer and cemetery custodian. He is survived by his wife, Hattie, and four sons; Marvin Jansen, Monticello; Merle Jansen, Anamosa; Clifford Jansen, Cedar Rapids; William Jansen, jr., Charles City. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held Friday morning, Oct 21, 1977, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church and interment in the church cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson officiated at the services. Military services were presented by the Anamosa' American Legion post No. 13. Casket bearers were members of the Anamosa American Legion posts: Wilson Kouba, John Andreesen, Virgil Martin, Cletus McNamara, Roy Folkerts and Arthur Boots.
