Keithley Died July 22 Funeral Sunday For Former Superior Business Man and Mayor William Keithley, 86, a former Superior mayor, and resident of the city, since 1900, passed away suddenly last Thursday. The following obituary was read at the funeral services here Sunday afternoon: William Keithley, son of Abner C. and Elisabeth Ann Keithley, was born in Blanden, Ill., Feb. 28, 1862. He moved with his parents to Gosport, Iowa, when a small boy and received his education from the Gosport schools. Coming to Nebraska in 1880, he filed on a homestead near Oxford, where he resided several years, and was later employed by the Burlington railroad, stationed at Orleans and Oxford. Mr. Keithley came to Superior about the year, 1900, and established the firm known as the Superior Gravel and Sand Company, which manufactured concrete products. In the year 1940 he was forced to retire from active business due to poor health. William Keithley was united in marriage to Miss Ada Long Nov. 9, 1915, at Superior and this couple have since made their home in this city. Mr. Keithley served the city of Superior for many years as councilman and later as mayor. He united with the Methodist church (sic) in Orleans when he was a young man. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges. He passed away very suddenly July 22, 1948, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 22 days. Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Ada, and five children by a former marriage: M. E. Keithley, Willowbrook, Calif.; Blanche Gregory, Omaha, Neb., Bertha Hoffken, Birmingham, Ala., Beulah Puckett, Lincoln, Neb., and Beatrice Nesbitt, Burlington, Iowa, also ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Priest Chapel with Rev. John R. Bucknell officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery (sic) with the I.O.O.F. lodge in charge at the grave. ===================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, August 5, 1948 William Keithley, 86, a former Superior mayor, and resident of the city, since 1900, passed away suddenly last Thursday (July 22).
