He was born to Jacob & Jeanette (Vande Hoef) Van Voorst on September 18, 1917, near Alvord, IA. He attended various country schools. William married Alice G. Dibbet on April 24, 1941, near Hull, IA. They lived near Perkins, Doon & Orange City, where they farmed. They retired to Sioux Center in 1979. He enjoyed translating Dutch books. William was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he served as an elder for 46 years. He is survived by his wife; five sons & their wives: Wayne & Arlene of Sioux Center, James & Linda of Bend, OR, Carl & Jan of Orange City, Marvin of Duluth, MN, Dave & Lisa of Nooksack, WA; six daughters & their husbands: Janet & Willard Post of Doon, Sheryl & Norm Vande Berg of Pipestone, MN, Esther & Ron Van Der Brink of Sioux Center, Norma & Steve Van Vliet of Orange City, Ruth & Warren Vander Helm of Sioux Center, Leann & Mike Klootwyk of Orange City, & ReNae Van Voorst of Orange City; 36 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, two brothers: Maurice of Rock Valley & James of Sioux Center; four sisters: Gert Hoogendoorn & Jeanette Vanden Top both of Rock Valley, Marie Vander Stouwe & Henrietta Vonk both of Sioux Center; and two sisters-in-law: Jennie Van Voorst of Rock Valley & Jeanette Van Voorst of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his parents and three granddaughters, five brothers (Jake, John, Henry, Sam, Harry) and one 2 1/2 year old sister.
