Description	:	William Verne Styskal, a.k.a. "Buffalo Bill" was born on February 14, 1920, to Frank and Antonia Kovar Styskal on a farm southeast of Exeter. He passed away on September 13, 1994, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 74 years, six months and 29 days. "Buffalo Bill" was born on February 14, 1920, to Frank and Antonia Kovar Styskal on a farm southeast of Exeter. He passed away on September 13, 1994, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 74 years, six months and 29 days. After completion of the eighth grade from district number 72, he attended Exeter High School, graduating with the class of 1937. He farmed with his father until he entered the army on March 28, 1942. He received a medical discharge on May 8, 1942. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Arbuck on March 26, 1943. He started to do combining of wheat with his helpers and after his marriage, he, his wife and hired help followed the wheat harvest. Their work took them from Minneapolis, Kansas, to Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He also did corn shelling and in 1944, owned one of the first two self-propelled combines in Fillmore County. He was a very hard-working individual and could always find ways to become even busier. In 1953, with other help, he built his own well drilling machine. The following fall, he dug his first irrigation well on his fathers farm. His wife, Carolyn, worked faithfully in the office and made many a run for parts to assist him. They were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on March 26, 1993. In the last few years, his health had begin to fail and he entered the Hearthstone nursing home in York.Though his health had restricted him he maintained a keen interest in his well drilling business. He made frequent visits back to Exeter, to his shop, where he enjoyed visiting with his customers, employees and friends. He was a member of the Exeter, American Legion Post number 218 and the Welldrillers Association. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Carolyn on November 4, 1993. He is survived by his brothers, Elmer and his wife Helen of Kearney and Fred and his wife Jeanne of Exeter; two nephews, Ronald Styskal of Friend and Darrell Styskal of Exeter; three nieces, Cheryl luzum of Milligan, Linoma Gragson of Hawaii and Ramona Styskal of Denver; his wife Carolyn’s nephew and wife, Richard and Deanna Arbuck who were always there for him. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Exeter, at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 16 with Melanie Adams officiating. Marci Manwarren Accompanied Robert O. Rhodes, who sang, “How Great Thou Art”. Casket bearers were Richard Arbuck, Raymond Erdkamp, Eugene Krejci, Dave Pollock, Darrell Styskal and Ronald Styskal. Interment with military flag presentation services were conducted from the Exeter Public Cemetery. Farmer Funeral Home of Exeter was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial should be directed to the Exeter Rescue Unit or to the Edgar Recreational Park.
