Description	:	AMHERST - Death of William W. Sloan - William W. Sloan, a life-long resident of Amehrst, who had been in failing health, passed away at his home on Monday morning. Sloan, a life-long resident of Amehrst, who had been in failing health, passed away at his home on Monday morning. He was the son of George N. and Lucy Ball Sloan and was born April 21, 1862. On December 25, 1883, he married Miss Estelle M. Caldwell of this town [Amherst NH]. For several years he was in the grocery business here in partnership with W.D. Clark. He was town clerk for 35 years, postmaster under Grover Cleveland for two terms, Star route carrier of the US mail which ran between Ponemah and Amherst and later Milford and Amehrst. He served on the school board for over 15 years and for many years was fire chief and forest fire warden. He was a member of Custos Morum Lodge I.O.O.F. of Milford for 45 years, of Prospect Hill Encampment, of Benevolent Lodge A.F. & A.M. for many years, of Souhegan Grange, Amherst Commandery of Golden Cross, and Lawrence Engine Company. He is survived by his widow; two sons, William Leroy Sloan of Nashua and Frank A. Sloan of Lowell, one daughter, five grandchildren and one niece. Mr. Sloan was a citizen who was always interested in the welfare of Amherst and its people and ready to aid in any way within his power. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Congregational church. Rev. M.T. Anderson, a former minister of Amherst, now of Hubbardston, Mass., officiated, as assisted by Rev. Mr. Sibley. There were many floral tributes which expressed the esteem in which Mr. Sloan was held in the community. Stores were closed and business stoped during the services. Many friends from Milford and other places joined Amehrst neighbors at the funeral. The bearers, representing the firemen, the Masons and the Odd Fellows, were Fred O. Stevens, A.L. Martin, H.H.
