Description	:	Civil War Veteran, Co. I, 71st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (71st PVI). William Manington enrolled in the 1st California Regiment on May 31, 1861 at Attleborough, Bucks County, Pennsylvania (which is today Langhorne, PA). He was 26 years old at the time and his younger brother Charles also enrolled with him. William (also know as Wallace on the Civil War rolls) was mustered into service on June 6, 1861 as a private at Fort Schuyler, NY. William (also know as Wallace on the Civil War rolls) was mustered into service on June 6, 1861 as a private at Fort Schuyler, NY. During his time in the 71st PVI, he fought at Gettysburg, where his regiment was the focus point of the Confederate attack during Pickett's Charge. He was mustered out of service on July 2, 1864.
