Milne, 81, a long time resident of La Porte City, died at his home on Third street, Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. He had been in failing health the past year, but was confined to bed less than a week. Death was attributed to advanced age and complications. William Wallace Milne, son of Andrew and Jane Milne, was born February 6, 1866, near Thornton, Ill. In his infancy he moved with his parents to a farm near Dysart, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 21 years he left the farm and attended business college in Burlington, Iowa. For several years he was engaged in business at Tingley and Sheffield, Iowa. While in Sheffield he met Miss Jennie Wallis whom he married October 10, 1900. They lived there until 1902, when they moved to Minneapolis. In 1904 they moved to a farm southwest of La Porte City and in 1910 the family came to this city. At that time Mr. Milne became manager of the Farmer’s Co-operative Exchange. He continued to manage their grain elevators and lumber yard until 1928, when the company was dissolved and he bought the business. He retired in 1936. He is survived by his wife; one son Joe, La Porte City; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Bruce of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Mrs. J.C. Kettleson of Dallas, Tex.; five grandchildren, Marjorie, Shirley and William Milne, and Richard and Russell Bruce; three brothers, James, Herman and Fred, all of Dysart; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Vaubel of Dysart and Mrs. Daniel Zwilling of State Center. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Milne was well-known and esteemed in La Porte City and vicinity and widely known in areas surrounding La Porte City as a grain buyer. He was a member of the Methodist church and active in the work of its official board as long as his health permitted. Services Friday Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church. Rev. C.D. James of Charles City will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. Oliver Jensen. Music will be furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Burr. Casket bearers will be the following nephews, Clarence Milne, Donald Milne, Lyle Vaubel, Earl Vaubel, Dean Vaubel and John Milne. Burial will be in West View cemetery.
