A graveside memorial service was held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 28, at the family plot in Lawson Cemetery in Eden. Born December 16, 1913, in Leaksville (now Eden), Mr. Hampton was the son of the late William Walter Hampton Sr. and May Carter Hampton. Mr. Hampton graduated from Leaksville High School in 1931. Read More	____________________________________________ EDEN, NC — William Walter Hampton Jr., 95, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009. A graveside memorial service was held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 28, at the family plot in Lawson Cemetery in Eden. Born December 16, 1913, in Leaksville (now Eden), Mr. Hampton was the son of the late William Walter Hampton Sr. and May Carter Hampton. Mr. Hampton graduated from Leaksville High School in 1931. He opened Hampton Motor Company on Washington Street where he sold several makes of automobiles. On January 15, 1942, he enlisted in the Army where he served as an airplane and engine mechanic with the 1564th Army Air Force Base Unit. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945, when he returned to Leaksville and continued his business until his retirement. Surviving are his sister, Klyce H. Chandler of Eden; nephews and nieces, Dr. John Fulcher, Klyce Scott, Klyce Sayers, James Hampton, Amy Parsons, and Rebecca Griffith; and several great-nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carter and J. H. Hampton; a sister, Mae Fulcher; and nephew, Mike Fulcher.
